About us
Since 2005, we have trained over 27,000 pastors and leaders in Africa with our innovative and life-changing Bible workshops.
OUR PURPOSE
APT Ministries exists to strengthen pastors, leaders, and churches in Africa. We primarily accomplish this by:
Encouraging them to ongoing faithfulness in their ministries through deepening their personal relationship with God.
- Equipping them for greater effectiveness in their ministries by developing their skills in studying the Word of God.
- Training them in the preparation, preaching and teaching of Biblical-centered messages using the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible as their only study tool.
Our History
Our roots run to the Philippines
In 1982, Dr. John Jauchen (Help for Christian Nationals ) was ministering on the remote island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. He noticed that good study tools were rare and in great demand. Responding to the requests of Filipino pastor-friends there, Dr. Jauchen made an informal study of the major Study Bibles available at the time.
A wonderful study tool discovered
He came to believe that the Thompson Chain-Reference Study Bible was one of the best one-volume study tools for people who were teaching and preaching on a regular basis.
Thousands have been trained
Since 1982, more than 130,000 pastors, evangelists, missionaries and local church workers have been equipped and trained in Latin America, the Philippines, India, and now Africa. Training is also being provided to Hispanic pastors here in the United States.
APT Ministries is born
In 2005, Chuck Ballard conducted the first Thompson Bible International Institute in Africa in the city of Moundou, Chad. Subsequently, the Lord led Chuck to leave full-time pastoral ministry in 2008 to begin African Pastoral Training Ministries with the vision of multiplying this short-term, high-impact, training throughout continental Africa.
Our Approach
Our philosophy of ministry is simple. We conduct low-cost pastoral training workshops throughout Africa that:
- Train and equip pastors on how to teach and preach God’s word effectively using the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible, motivating them toward ongoing study, effective preparation and effective communication
- Demonstrate the absolute indispensability of the Holy Spirit in every step of effective Biblical communication
- Encourage, strengthen and bring spiritual rest and healing to pastors through solid Biblical teaching
- Promote unity and deeper fellowship among leaders from different groups and churches
- Promote a broadened view of and involvement in God’s work around the world

Our Beliefs
The Word of God
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is infallible and authoritative in the original writings.
God
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious death and atonement through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal return in power and glory.
Salvation
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are essential.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
Man
We believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life eternal.
The Church
We believe in the spiritual unity of the Church, which is the Body of Christ, composed of all who are regenerated through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
